I've always found tomatoes to be hit or miss. It takes a reasonable amount of effort to find a good tomato that doesn't taste like a foamy, mealy, slightly sour tasting water balloon. You almost have to grow it yourself, or find an heirloom breed just to have a tomato that tastes tomatoey.
